SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) — Hillary Clinton embraced her moment in history on Tuesday after she became the first woman in the 240-year history of the United States to receive a presidential nomination from a major political party.
“Thanks to you, we’ve reached a milestone,” she said. “Tonight’s victory is not about one person. It belongs to generations of women and men who struggled and sacrificed and made this moment possible.”
The former first lady, senator from New York and secretary of state will now face presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump in November’s general election battle, likely to present itself as one of the nastiest campaigns in modern history. Clinton has been critical of Trump’s business practices, character and tendency to use his campaign as a platform to personally attack others.
She has work to do within her own party still as well — speaking from his own rally in California, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders declared, “the struggle continues.” He pledged to stay in the race through next week’s Washington D.C. primary, and fight on through the Democratic National Convention to be held in Philadelphia next month.
Regardless, Clinton intensified her assault against Trump on Tuesday night, aying out a case that his values and rhetoric are incompatible with American principles and that he’s “temperamentally unfit” to be President.
“He is not just trying to build a wall between America and Mexico. He is trying to wall of Americans from each other. When he says let’s make America great again, that is code for let’s take American backwards.”
She hit Trump for his recent attacks on a judge with Mexican ancestry, as well as for mocking a disabled reporter and calling “women pigs.”
“He wants to win by stoking fear and rubbing salt in wounds and reminding us daily just how great he is.”
