Priyanka Chopra, Sundar Pichai & Sania Mirza make Time’s 100 Most Influential

Sania-Mirza-WorkoutSAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) — Actress Priyanka Chopra, tennis star Sania Mirza and Google CEO Sundar Pichai have all been selected by Time Magazine to its list of ‘100 Most Influential People in the World.’

Released on Thursday, Time’s annual list includes other pioneers, like American composer Lin Manuel-Miranda, head of the International Monetary Fund Christine Lagarde, and iconic actor Leonardo DiCaprio. Those named represent people who are “exploring the frontiers of art, science, society, technology and more,” the magazine said.

Cricket superstar Sachin Tendulkar described Mirza by writing that her “confidence, strength and resilience reach beyond tennis has inspired a generation of Indians to pursue their dreams,” adding that it’s inspired others “to realize that they can also be the best.” Mirza was recently honored with India’s third-highest civilian award, the Padma Bhushan. She was selected for being an “inspiration” on the court, and for the “dedication and willpower” to reinvent herself fully as a doubles player when her singles career was cut short by wrist injuries.

Chopra, who was awarded with the Padma Shri earlier this year, was described by fellow actor Dwayne Johnson as “a star who is rising higher.” He commended her “drive, ambition, self-respect, and she knows there’s no substitute for hard work.” Before he’d ever met the Bollywood star, Johnson wrote that he was already well aware of Chopra. “She was beautiful, talented, had made nearly 50 movies, earned multiple awards—a massive star,” Johnson wrote.

Pichai, whose accomplishments were described by famed scientist Bill Nye, became CEO of Google last summer. It was then that he began “to change the world,” Nye wrote. Pichai was the chief engineer behind Google Drive, which Nye describes as “the original name for ‘the cloud.'” Additionally, Pichai contributed to the developments of Gmail, Google Chrome and Android cellphones, the latter of which might have had the most dramatic impact on everyday lives, Nye wrote. “A great many of us can’t tell which side of a street we’re on without checking Google Maps,” he writes.
